Was the oil pump replaced with a brand new one specifically for the Eurovan? I know that the Golf and Jetta oil pump is more common and it has a shorter pickup strainer. So if they used the wrong oil pump, you are starving your new engine.

Recently my oil pump went out in my 01 Tahoe. At first I thought it was engine replacement time. Further troubleshooting I realized it was merely the oil pump which is unusual but it was -10 degrees outside when it happened.

Pros: inexpensive part, easy to install
Cons: bitch to get at

The oil pump was checked for lash and end play. Dead center of tolerance. So I'm reusing it. It is however a bit scarred up where the vanes go around (the bore surface).

Pros: dead center of tolerance
Cons: bit scarred up

I would add the chain driven oil pump to the Con side. The internal chain is more susceptible to failure and has higher maintenance cost. these motors are notorious for the chain guilds wearing out clogging the oil pump pickup and starving the head, turbo and motor of oil pressure causing an expensive repair. ask anyone you know who owns one. My friend with a 1.8T Audi has had this happen twice in 2 years. another thing to consider is internal timing chain = higher maintenance cost.

Cons: susceptible to failure, higher maintenance

The only vehicle I\u2019ve owned that burned a noticeable amount of oil was my 85 5.0 Mustang with a bad oil pump. It lost oil pressure when it warmed up and being a dumb high school kid, I just kept driving it.

Cons: bad oil pump, lost oil pressure

Had our engine fail on our 2014 Sonata 2.4. Took 4 months and a LOT of calls to get it replaced finally at no cost. Fast forward 15 months and 18,000 miles and the oil pump has failed.

Cons: oil pump failed
Vehicle: Hyundai Sonata
Mileage: 28962 km

From reading on the B6 Forum...the B6 has something that the B5's sure don't....V6 engines that die sudden deaths from oil pump bolt failures!

Cons: engine failure
