I bit the bullet and bought 4 Hella Ignition coils (HEL5DA193175-781) for £100 and threw in a brand new set of plugs gapped to 0.05 and the car is running perfect now.

I replaced the spark plugs over the weekend, and I’m doing the ignition coils tomorrow replacing them with brand new Delphi’s.
On Sunday, my 2008 Nissan Quest 3.5S threw a misfire code for one of my front ignition coils. Just to be on the safe side, I went ahead and replaced all three.
When you buy on Amazon, make sure you buy directly from the manufacturer. You are right. A bosch ignition coil costs $34 at the official bosch store in amazon, while it costs $60 at advanced auto parts.
Coils get discolored like that when the spark plugs are loose.
I changed my ignition coils to delphi aftermarket ones and the idle is nice and smooth now. But the old ones had like 200k km on them.
Totally, saw one for the first time on a 2003 Corolla. I was like “dafuq”? Turned out the ignition coils need to be replaced once every 22 years, haha.
Probably the coils. The Bosch coils I’ve used in the past on my 330Ci (same coils) lasted maybe 20K. Delphi are much better.
My first car was a Volkswagen Passat. I was on a budget and got a good deal on a really nice car. It was a dream to ride, except when everything kept going wrong. I went through multiple ignition coils, the car caught fire (bad coil, again) and had thousands in damage. Beyond that, getting tires balanced wasn\u2019t a simple job. Everywhere needed to special order shims from Germany because that\u2019s the only way a Volkswagen tire could be balanced.
What’s not low stress is when I lose traction control and vehicle stability control whenever my check engine light comes on. A bad ignition coil shouldn’t affect those safety features.
