I would get NGK, Denso or Motorcraft coils though, you don't want to cheap out on critical parts like this.
Owner reviews for ignition coil
Other than the head gasket and I did replace the engine block years ago I've been very very happy with mine. Just had to replace the ignition coils a few months ago. And the suspension was super old so I did that too. I've got 314k on mine and I drive it almost every day.
Also - OEM is better. I replaced my coils with higher quality aftermarket. Seems to run fine.
If you do replace a coil, go with OEM or quality aftermarket parts. Cheap coils cause new problems. The Hitachi coils on RockAuto are probably alright.
Truly you can’t get anything but the Denso coils. There’s no money buying and installing twice.
Have to use Denso coil packs. All the cheap ones are crap.
Minor things like brakes, new battery and one coil pack is all.
The coils are Bosch and I assume the OEM from factory. I know they car is 18 years old, and I don't mind replacing them, but I'm curious if age, and not just mileage, plays a factor in coils and spark plugs. Manual says change spark plugs at 100k and it seems unusual to me for coils to fail with so few miles on them. I've had several other cars with over 150k miles that never had a failed coil, and one car even had over 250k miles (and about 25 years old). Could there be something causing these coils to fail prematurely? Should I look for a different brand than Bosch?
I chose the cheaper Bosch ignition coil. When I got home, I realized the spring inside was significantly shorter than my old coil's spring. I made no risk of putting this in and brought it back. I learned that Bosch parts used to be made only in Germany and were excellent, but now many are made in the US or China and are poor quality. The one I got was definitely not the German quality.
Duralast coils are known to be problematic
