I was using 0w20 because of price but got some mobile 1 deal 0w16 for cheap so I'll try that and see if I get better MPG (currently 35-42).

Liquimoly 4210 0w-30 or pennzoil platinum euro lx 0w-30 are the two best imo. I have heard from some other mk8 owners that Pennzoil drops engine temps by 8-20 degrees F so thats what goes in mine.

Liqui moly 4210 pricy but dropped my temps 10 degrees 0w30 vw 504 rated..

I use Valvoline 20W 50 VR1 racing oil. It’s got a high magnesium content so well suited for the gearbox.

Google the Mobil 1 “million mile car”.

Any oil that meets the manufacturer's specification for your car will be fine. Mannoil 5W30 fully synthetic meets VW 502.00 and ebay sell 5L for about £17 - why pay more?

i use amsoil saber when i have it but not at 100:1 I don't really care if the engineer says its fine.

I stay away from Mobil 1 and Castrol because although they are everywhere they are not as good as they euro synthetics. In Europe they are not even legally considered synthetics. When I drain mobil1 it looks black and the engine is missing a quart...
