I have topped of Supercoolant ( OEM ) twice over the course of 60k miles / 3 years ownership. Losing the factory coolant slowly over time is actually a thing. Since I have done the 2nd top off on the OBW it is now maintaining for over 6 months.

Now their Subaru coolant is in fact different ..... It has a head gasket "helper" in it . not that its saved my head gaskets... lol
You'll be surprised how subaru's super coolant will pretty much have no issue for basically your cars lifetime unless you see visible problems.
I have always used OE pre mixed Subaru super blue coolant when I had to do any work on my cooling system. I bought my car new in 2013 and plan to keep it forever so I'm not trying to find out the hard way if the aftermarket stuff will be ok or not. The way I see it is, yes it's expensive for coolant, but how often do I actually buy it? Almost never. Even if you do the servicing as specified by Subaru, the stuff lasts a very long time. With that said, I did recently have to drain my coolant to replace the upper and lower hoses. My car has 176k miles on it now and the coolant was replaced not too long ago. So I got myself a clean aluminum pan to drain the coolant into to reuse it. It came out perfectly clean which means even after all those years and all those miles, there isn't a spec of corrosion or dirt in my cooling system. So I'm personally sticking with the stuff that helped keep it that way all these years
I had the same issue with the same sound. I topped up the coolant and at around 38 psi the noise went away and the AC functions perfectly.
For my Subaru I use the Subaru Super Coolant.
Honestly, go with the premixed Subaru blue coolant. It has the correct additives and will not harm the engine.
I always keep a gallon on hand and only needed to top up small loss from summer driving in my previous Outback.
Ordered Subaru super coolant. Filled it half way between the low and the full line. That was a month ago. It stayed there and no more weird smell since. So no leaks.
the blue Subaru coolant is made specifically for Subaru's and generally prolongs the coolant systems/head gaskets.
