It isnt either mentioned, but I have used the RotellaT6 with good results. I did this for my first oil change after I bought the car used. Not sure what the previous owner used, but the chains quieted down quite a bit.
Shell Rotella T for the win - get it cheap at your local Walmart in gallon jugs. Side note on collapsed lifters - ATF Type F, added to the oil and a 5-10 min idle cycle before you change the oil can really help clean them out for cheap. Note, ATF has a lot of cleaners in it, and is thin, DO NOT rev it...just let it idle. Worked awesome on my old Coupe GT 5 cyl with horrid lifters.
Mine doesn't use any, and it gets an italian tuneup every time I start it. Running Rotella T6 5w40
Those engines do burn oil. Clogged PCV would be the first to eliminate. Go w/a HD 5w-40 like Rotella.
Try the Rotella 10w-30 T5. Thin oil may work better to free things up.
I always run rotella 15w-40 in my mk3 2.0 8v. No complaints and its cheap
I just did the 4th oil change (first non-dealer change) on our 40k mile Tiguan TSI and used Rotella T6. I use it in my stage 2 WRX and think it's fantastic, so why not in the TSI. Great oil overall.
I run the T6 in my 2.0T FSI.
Rotella T6 5w-40 is a great Diesel full synthetic.
Another vote for the Shell Rotella 15w-40. I run it year round in my Rabbit.
