this just happened on my 2016 VW Golf. i had no evidence of oil leaking and no low oil lights came on. suddenly the oil pressure light came on and i pulled over within a couple of blocks. by the time it was towed to the garage, they found the oil pan cracked and caused enough damage to the engine that it needs replacement. This seems outrageous to me.

Cons: Cracked without warning, Caused engine damage
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf
Mileage: 104607 km

In my B5.5 Passat 1.8t... pulled forward a little too far and hit the sidewalk. Cracked the oil pan... Drained the oil, scuffed up the cracked area, applied JB Weld, waited an hour, filled with oil, and drove it home. Drove it another two years like that, just using an oil extractor to do oil changes instead of draining it from the bottom.

Pros: JB Weld successful fix
Cons: oil pan cracked
Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat

2021 VW Passat SE, My oil pan cracked a few weeks ago blamed it on my son hitting something. I had it replaced at a local repair spot as it’s no longer under warranty. I drove it for a week or so and notice major oil leak again, took back to my repair guy, oil pan cracked again in same spot.

Cons: Oil pan cracked, Replacement cracked again

My Mk7 GTI has a plastic pan and everyone lost their minds when VW did that from the metal pans on the Mk6. That said, I haven't heard any issues with them and the people who HAVE broken them on track and hitting crap in the road would've demolished the same metal pan anyway. Over 120k miles on mine and almost 9 years with the car and it hasn't kept me up at night, so I can't imagine it's that big a deal. Plus, living in the salt belt (northeast PA) it's just one less thing to rust out.

Pros: one less thing to rust

Shop told me it was \"still holding a little bit of oil\" when they got it so they didn't suspect major engine problems. They also replaced the side rocker panel for another $400 (which seemed unneeded). Seems like the only things they actually did as far as the oil pan goes are replace the oil pan and replace the oil pan gasket.

Pros: oil pan replaced
Cons: negligence, didn't add oil
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 82000 km

My friend in high school cracked the oil pan in his Jetta twice. Is there something about these cars that makes them more vulnerable to catching the oil pan on things?

Cons: oil pan cracks easily
Vehicle: Volkswagen Jetta
