Rating 5.0

My problem (from 2+ years ago) turned oiut to be a bad starter. The solenoid must have gone south. A new starter motor fixed it.

This happened on my 2021 atlas under 15000 miles - took to dealer and replaced 3 failed fuel injectors. Rode like a new car and no more stuttering or stalling.

OEM Volkswagen Brake caliper

Install was easy, just as planned. This kit is refurbished oe calipers powder coated red. Nothing over the top but they look much better than the bare metal factory calipers. I have driven less than 50 miles so far but initial impression is great. Nice and smooth, they seem to catch a little lower on the pedal but that can be due to how fresh they are and still removing the coating on the rotors. Since the rotors are drilled and slotted there is a little noise but I suspect that will go away after my 80 mile commute tomorrow. Happy to report the pulsating is gone and braking performance is much better now.

Pros: easy install, smooth braking
Cons: rotors a little noisy
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 50 km

OEM Volkswagen Battery
Ecsta
  • Cranking:
Rating 2.5

OEM battery died at 3 years old / 50,000km. Was tested and deemed defective and replaced for free. Replacement OEM battery is currently 3 years / 45,000km old and I'm a bit nervous on long trips this winter lol. I got it tested last month out of paranoia and it came back all good.

Pros: replaced for free
Cons: died early, short lifespan
Mileage: 50000 km

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

IDK - I was at 160K or so miles when I sold my '11 Tiguan. Sure, it ate a water pump, had the first gen timing chain tensioner replaced, needed cv axles, had a stuck fuel injector, lost an intake manifold, blew a turbo diaphragm, destroyed its engine mount bushings, struts and shocks went bad, needed seat covers replaced because they cracked and split and needed new tires every 25K or so...

Cons: ate a water pump
Mileage: 257495 km

OEM Volkswagen Battery charger
plantsavier
  • Ease of use:
  • Charging time:
Rating 1.0

I recently experienced a high voltage battery failure while driving. The local dealership sent it to a VW dealer in Massachusetts for repair. One month later, it came back. I drove it for 2 days and plugged it in to charge, only to discover it wouldn’t take a charge. I had it towed to the local dealer who told me it needed a new battery charger ($2300 + $1100 labor) and I’m still waiting for the repair. I was only 17 days out of the 5-year warranty and VW won’t cover this repair. The Massachusetts dealer returned the car to me knowing it didn’t have a functional charger.

Cons: battery failure, charger failure, expensive repair, poor warranty coverage
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 24000 km
