I recommend K&N. Some say it helps the car feel sportier (not really that noticeable imo), but you can buy the cleaning kit (about $20) and reuse the filter. It’ll help you stay on top of maintenance since it’s a lot easier to clean it 2-3 times a year as opposed to buying a brand new one 2-3 times a year. You can clean the filters so many times with the cleaning kit too.

Pros: reusable, easy to clean
Vehicle: Honda Fit

K&N Air filter

I put one in probably 7k miles ago, no issues thus far. I didn't do a whole cold air intake, just the box filter replacement.

Pros: no issues thus far
Mileage: 7000 km

K&N Air filter

I put a K&N air filter in my 2010. My first cleaning was a few weeks ago before I went to Disneyland; I've had the filter installed about 9 months or so. It's performed well enough.

Pros: performed well enough
Cons: more work to clean
Vehicle: Volkswagen

K&N Air filter

Many years ago I bought a K&N air filter for my Honda. I thought it made a SLIGHT improvement in performance but also made a significant difference in engine noise.

Pros: slight improvement performance
Cons: significant engine noise
Vehicle: Honda Accord

The OEM ones on 3rd Gen Tacomas are better believe it or not. That KN one is going to dirty up quick and mess with your maf sensor.

Cons: dirty quickly, maf sensor issues
Vehicle: Toyota

Thanks for posting this question, mine came with the K&N from the previous owner and the airbox baffles removed. I put them back in along with a new paper filter early on. When that soiled I remembered the K&N was hanging out in a box. Bought a cleaning kit and did my best to follow the directions, removed the air box baffles again (I had at the time recently read about how it may increase flow and improve the sound of the intake), and once clean, popped the 'wet' K&N in.

Fast forward 6k miles and I start having a bit of a rough idle even after all new upgraded ignition components, starter, battery, premixing, and cat delete and so I decided to check the MAF (which I had cleaned back when replacing the SSV solenoid) - fucking filthy! Oil all up in the throttle body. That shit let a mess in there, man! Cleaned the MAF and back to paper we go. Car is healthier than it has been since I have owned it. The intake on the 8 was designed very thoughtfully and very well to run stock components - paper filter and baffles included. I regret messing with it based on old ass posts on RX8club from before the info others have posted here was well understood.

Cons: oil in throttle body, rough idle
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 6000 km
