I like the set of firestone winterforce I just put on our XC70 this year so far. Took them out on snow/ice a few times so far and they feel like I would expect any dedicated winter tire to feel. What took me by surprise is how they drive in the dry... perfectly reasonable handling/braking and reasonable road noise for a winter tire. These actually handle and brake better in the dry than bridgestone weatherpeaks.
Best Tires for Volvo XC70
AWESOME bad weather tire, They are great on cars that see a lot of not so great roads. I run them on my all wheel drive volvo xc70 and they are fantastic. They handle dirt and mud super well, in addition to just not minding the snow at all, and they have really good hydroplane resistance.
I drive a 2004 volvo XC70, that sees a lot of dirt, mud, back roads and sometimes even snow. Michelin cross climate 2s on that thing no matter what... Those tires are just plain amazing on anything all wheel drive that encounters a lot of sloppy shit.
I run Blizzaks on my XC70 in the winter, and it's a utter MONSTER in the snow. I've embarrassed 4WD vehicles with good tires on snowy forest roads. I went into the mountains early season last year with just the all-seasons on after a minor snow event (a couple inches, plows had been through) and skidded slightly off a plowed gravel road onto a soft shoulder. Never would have happened with the Blizzaks, I'd just been lazy and hadn't put them on yet - they got put on later that afternoon. I don't notice much of a gas mileage hit that the winter fuel blend doesn't mostly account for anyway.
I had them on my wife’s XC70. They’re a pretty good tire.
If you opt for replacement I run yokohama Geolander A/T G015’s on my 2014 xc70. They are wonderful tires for mixed use driving. I live in a dirt road but also have a long highway commute and the Yokohamas have been the best tire I’ve found for both surfaces.
Very, very much a happy camper. Ride is suprisingly supple, I went up in size from 215/65 R16 to 215/70 R16 which I knew would give it a bit of a cushier ride but I didn’t expect it to feel better than the All Seasons, which it does. A little added road noise, slight roar over the All-Seasons but not noticeable unless you look for it. Ride height went from the stock 8.2in to about 9.4in which easily cleared the wheel well with no rubbing.
Most surprisingly though, it feels like it handles better. Comparing it to the high-mile Continentals I had (90k warranty) they’re more confidence inspiring
in turns, not much added lean at all, might be due to other mods on the wagon but
it definitely didn’t make it worse. Tested today at 90F from a winter-rated “AT-lite” tire, I was caught off guard how well it takes the turns. It’s no Michelin Pilot Sport, but it’s better than I thought it’d be. It also took a gravel road I threw at it like nobody’s business. I drove it pretty aggressively through some twisty, dusty gravel and it was planted pretty much the whole time.
The XC70 had Vredesteins when we bought it and they were ok. We got about 35k miles out of them.
I drive a 2006 xc70 and while I have regular tires on I absolutely hate how much I lose traction on even the slightest pedal use. I have to baby every turn and intersection so I don't lose grip. Really disappointed with this vehicle.
We put a set of these on our 05 XC70 last year. 11K miles later they are down to 4/32 - 5/32. The tread wear is indeed terrible on these.
