Mobil Engine oil
ozzy1975
  • Engine noise:
Rating 4.0

So did the oil change today. Mobil 1 0w-40, changed the filter as well, after about 20 miles I can sense a bit more smoothness and slightly better throttle response as compared to whatever else was there.

Pros: more smoothness, better response
Mileage: 20 km

GISLAVED Tires

Nordfrost 5 (no studs) for the Tig (4motion), Marangoni 4ice on the Passat. I like the Nordfrosts better (had the Nordfrost 3 on the Jetta and loved them there too).

Pros: liked the Nordfrosts better

Kendall Engine oil
shawng
  • Engine noise:
Rating 5.0

I use to use Castrol Syntec 5W40 (what the tig came with) and all I could get here. Last spring I opened my own shop and can get Kendall 5W40 Euro and started using that as it is 502 approved. I found it made the engine run smoother and quieter. My customers have noted the same.

Pros: engine run smoother, quieter

OEM Subaru Head gasket
Bayer-GTi
  • Overheating:
Rating 5.0

The Tig won't need head gaskets at ~150k like every other subi does. The TSI pretty much has reliability nailed down now, IMHO. Change the oil and drive.

Pros: reliability nailed down
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan
Mileage: 150000 km

DUNLOP Tires

YES< Subaru ahs better AWD, but put on Tig good snow tires like Dunlop M3 or Pirelli or Michelin, and there is no obstacle. I used those tires on FWD and RWD cars in Southern Alps and never had issues, never got stuck, always break on a dime. With 4Motion they are unstoppable.

Pros: unstoppable with 4Motion

NGK Spark plug
Robert~NRW
  • Starting:
  • Acceleration:
Rating 3.0

I have replaced the four spark plugs with properly gapped VW (NGK) plugs and still the #2 misfires cold and randomly thereafter. The original ones looked quite normal actually - chocolaty brown. Very little wear and a .032" gap.

Pros: normal appearance, little wear
Cons: misfires cold, misfires randomly

OEM Volkswagen Timing chain
BenjSA
  • Starting:
  • Warning light:
Rating 1.0

I have a 2008 1.4 TSI Tiguan bought from South African VW dealer, full dealer servicing too. Have had the coils replaced 7 times( kept burning out) spark plugs 4 times ( kept burning out too) and variouse other faults giving a total of 13 returns under warranty. The vehicle is now out of warranty with 139000 Km's (86000 miles) and the timing chain has failed bending valves etc. The vehicle took 3 weeks to repair and I had to pay R31000 ($2600 us) had a meeting with VWSA who say its normal wear and tear would not assist and didn't even apologies .

Cons: timing chain failed, valves bent
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan
Mileage: 139000 km
