You might also check the 12v battery, if it's limping along on the original or a dead one it would have to be constantly recharged by the HV battery & inverter running more often. Our 2013 had the original battery still in it when we bought it a couple months ago, clinging on at 11.9v. Mileage seems to have improved slightly with a fresh one.
Toyota Prius parts reviews
Fwd with snow tires in the winter isnt a bad option. You can't win every battle but itl do for 99% if the driving. I live in northern WI and we drive all over the place with Prius' and snow tires no problem.
I still miss my 360,000 mile Gen 3 Prius. I took really good care of it. Imported Japanese brand new hybrid battery , new catalytic converter, brand new Yokohama tires all around with brake pads and discs just to get rammed by a drunk driver.
I bought my 2016 Prius used with 32k miles on it back in 2019. It now has 157k miles and the maintenance has been a breeze. Just standard oil changes every 5k, 1 transmission fluid change, two sets of tires and I don\u2019t even think I have replaced the brakes yet ..no seriously I don\u2019t think I have yet.
I have a 2016 Gen 4 that my partner commutes about 100 miles round trip in. Aside from its strange looks it's a great car. Zero repairs so far at more than 220K miles. No rattles or clunks. Every single electric button and switch still works.
My 2012 recently needed a battery replacement
So on top of cold weather, your battery may need attention
Plugged EGR valve.
I have 2013 Prius with revised piston rings under 87k. The vehicle was cleaned recently at the dealership/ stealership with replacement of EGR valve under 500k miles first time. It costs me almost $1200- big mistake.
I want to share a brief but critical report regarding the recent replacement of the engine's electric water pump (EWP) on my Prius Gen 4. The analysis of the data logs revealed an alarming scenario; the new aftermarket pump's performance was completely unreliable, showing clear evidence of torque failure and instability. I had no choice but to purchase the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) pump from the dealership (it was stamped with the AISIN logo). The problem was instantly and definitively solved.
