Fram Oil filter

We ran only Fram (PH-8A) on our 1971 Ford LTD until the 1990s when we sold the car with 230K miles on it, and it had just started a light main crank bearing knock.

Pros: lasted 230k miles
Cons: light knock at end
Vehicle: Ford
Mileage: 230000 km
Part number: PH-8A

The OEM Ford belt I replaced in a 1992 Escort looked better than that when I did it a year ago. Quality matters.

MICHELIN Tires

Rating 4.0

I drive a ford cmax energi (4500lbs). I first went to the AS05 when I got sticker shock for replacing the low resistence michelins it came with. Been through 2 1/2 sets in 100kmiles. They have been consistent and even wearing. Just replaced 2 with the AS07. They are quiter yet the tread seems much more aggressive. Might just be because I was down to racing slicks. Actually looking forward to snow driving in a few months. Just have to turn off the traction control.

Pros: quieter, aggressive tread
Vehicle: Ford
Mileage: 160934 km

Continental Tires
Slvrblt
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 4.0

I run the Continental DWS06+ on my Mustang and have been very happy with them. They're not quite as sharp as the Michelin Pilot AS3 that they replaced, but that's ok for my daily driver. Adding 2 psi over the factory recommended pressures helped firm up the steering response and ride enough to keep me happy.

Pros: very happy, good for daily driver
Cons: not as sharp

VALEO Alternator

A bearing went in our original alternator so I replaced it with a Valeo brand and it's pretty loud when it clicks on. It is loud enough that I'm wondering if I got a bad alternator --or is this normal??

It's the typical whirl or whurr noise --it's silent, and then you can hear the whirl or whurr noise when the alternator clicks on. It seems mechanically and electrically fine: It's doing what it should be doing electrically (charging, correct voltage, the battery is happy, the car runs better with this new alternator, etc.). It's just loud.

Pros: mechanically fine, electrically fine, car runs better
Cons: pretty loud, whirl or whurr noise
Vehicle: Ford Escape
Mileage: 170000 km

Replaced it with OEM ford windshield and was done in a few hours. Got a chip on the way to snow and by the first night it started cracking across middle of vision. Windshield was exact OEM match. Even had the 75 yr sticker lol.

Pros: exact OEM match, 75 yr sticker
Cons: started cracking quickly
Vehicle: Ford
