I've had similar experiences and found the Trico Flex to be the "sweet spot" of performance, cost and availability.
I just bought the Tricos from Rock Auto. Fit perfectly. Snap. Done.
I buy Trico ExactFit or Trico Force from RockAuto. They are very affordable and have performed pretty well for me so far.
For winter, I tried Trico Ice.and they are awesome.
I've since switched to Trico Force, and I've been very happy with them. They work great and last me between 18 and 24 months.
At 5,000 miles I replaced the factory 4Runner blades with Trico Neoform beam blades (a B grade wiper in my book) and they still perform like brand new blades 10,000 miles later, including having been in the Florida heat followed by Connecticut ice, snow, and salt slurry.
Trico wiper blades are pretty great in a heavy downpour.
Get Trico winter blades. They work fine when the weather is cool/cold.
I just did it myself with a slightly different spin: I found a slightly better looking wiper blade part on the "TRICO Force" that tucks nicely over the stock window molding. Looks more like an air-foil:
When I picked up my M3, it was raining and did this from the moment I left the lot. I’ve cleaned the windshield (inside and out), but the streaks and haziness still appear when the blades activate. Perfectly clear when the wipers aren’t active. I was hoping that replacing the OEM blades would help, but after reading you had already done that, I’m not as hopeful.
