I didn\u2019t get many clean the camera warnings, but I could see the haze and would save footage from the camera when I thought haze would be a problem and I could see flashes of light completely block the camera. I cleaned the windshield and it seems like FSD is so much more confident overall and I trust it a lot more.
On two of my Mercedes, Pilkington is the OE manufacturer.
If you can, avoid using Subaru glass for the replacement. I replaced mine with a pilkington windshield and it isn’t as sensitive to cracks spreading.
Toyota used an acoustic windshield on the 2006-2009 refresh. If you own an earlier model it can be installed as an upgrade. You can also get a shaded windshield - I asked Safelite to see if that was an option. They installed a Pilkington.
saved my wallet so i\u2019ll never get rid of it. got mine in july and signed up for the windshield insurance on the last possible day and chipped my windshield not even a week later, which turned into a long ass crack before i even actually put the claim in
I have this on my 2020 MS but it happened after I drove in a windstorm in Arizona. It’s pitting. Unfortunately not quite bad enough to get a new windshield.
The wife has been trying to coerce me into a truck and we’ve driven the cyber truck. Honestly, coming off my model 3 i was sorely disappointed in it. Admittedly the test drive experience was soured by the filthy truck, shitty parking lot, and unhelpful test drive supervisor. But the thing just wasn’t as easy to see out of as say a silverado ev and the minimalist design that works in a sedan feels less good in a truck. Especially when you have so much dashboard and giant windshield. You also run into the issue that if you need to open the back up, you lose your rearview mirror entirely. Weird they wouldn’t make the thing a screen to the camera like most trucks do now.
I paid out of pocket for aftermarket glass from Safelite instead of the OEM, got Pilkington glass. The glass had a bad warp right in my line of sight and I had to get it replaced under warranty. The replacement also had warping, but over in the corners, so not too bad. Heated wiper bed and heads up display worked fine though.
I bought mine with an aftermarket replacement pilkington glass already installed - not sure for how long. So it's been on their at least 7 years now and the quality has degraded more than any other car I've had. There are no cracks or major dings but it just has microscopic pitting all over that glares in the right light. I can clean and claybar it to perfection and it's still not great.
I had same experience… a small rock chip expanded into a foot long crack in under a week.
