No problem w replaced our 4th with a Pilkington! The first 3 with OEM - big mistake x 3. The last was a Pilkington and it’s lasted many times longer than the other 3 OEMs combined. We also think it’s taken some hits that would have definitely shattered an OEM.

Pros: lasted many times longer
Cons: OEM big mistake

I replaced my cracked windshield with OEE glass, which was Pilkington EZ Kool. The shop recalibrated my camera for the pre-collision assist, and it's functioned like normal.

Pros: camera functions normally
Vehicle: Ford

Not only is Subaru (Carlex) glass not required, you don't even want it if given a choice. Go for aftermarket glass, Pilkington if you can. Zero issues with eyesight after calibration.

Pros: zero issues with eyesight
Cons: Subaru glass not desirable

Went to the local glass shop. Bought the pilkington as it’s a hair thicker and I know other OEMs use them. Night and day. Pilkington glass appears way clearer with less distortions. I’ve driven about 1.5 k miles since replacement and eyesight is dead on- about 500 miles local, 1k highway. No issues, works great in rain, and no random stops or the dreaded eyesight disabled logo.

Pros: clearer with less distortions
Cons: none
Mileage: 2414 km

OP I was just in the same boat. BMW Seattle wanted $3,000. I went through Safelite, paid $500, and got an OEM Pilkington windshield. They even calibrated everything for me and I haven\u2019t had a single issue in the 3 weeks of having it.

Pros: no issues
Vehicle: BMW

When you get it replaced see if you can get Pilkington glass. It is supposedly much more durable. I've had my Pilkington windshield take a few rocks and she is still going well so far.

Pros: much more durable

We’ve had horrible luck with pilkington delivering damaged glass in the last few months. Just last week it took them FOUR attempts to deliver the windshield for an odyssey. It gets old real fast

Cons: damaged glass, multiple attempts
Vehicle: Honda Odyssey

So I used a company besides safelite to replace my windshield because they stressed that they only use OEM glass, but after they replaced it, its stamped Pilkington instead of Mazda, and while the glass says its HUD rated I felt like my eyes were straining to look at it.

Cons: eyes straining
