I find that they all vary. Even the 2977. Haven\u2019t run into issues from it though, yet.
I also got a pilkington replacement about 6 months ago. No problems with it, and at this point I entirely forgot.
Same thing happened to me and ended up with the Pilkington glass. Actually like it more than the OEM since there's less visual distortion.
Does your local shop carry Pilkington? That’s a good OE brand that Audi used throughout the years, I think. Pilkington is a supplier for Mercedes too. I’ve had them in my cars and haven’t had any issues.
Pilkington is usually made better in my opinion. Any manufacturer can have issues including OEM. For my vehicles I use Pilkington, its the closest to OEM.
Pilkington is my favorite but they’ll all work, just looks nicer/ more hydrophobic at first
The glass installed was Pilkington. Pilkington is the OEM glass for my three Mercedes and Ferrari. Look at your windshield. The manufacturer is on it. That is what you want. Next time I got a chip, I called Safelite and asked if they could get me Pilkington glass. They said yes, showed up and replaced it. Happened a third time, and Safelite did it a third time.
My wife had to have the windshield changed on her 2024 after a fairly minor rock chip spread into a substantial crack overnight. The OEM on her CR-V is Pilkington, who supplies a lot of auto glass industry-wide. Our insurance didn't allow for OEM glass, so we just made sure the glass shop used Pilkington. The aftermarket windshield hasn't cracked yet, but within a few weeks, another rock hit left a series of defects in the glass (not really chips, but very superficial nicks). Guessing Pilkington just isn't producing a particularly good product, whether it's white label for Honda/Acura or as an aftermarket supplier.
'22 and on my third windshield. One was covered by Subaru and one had to pay insurance deductible. I had both Carlex and Pilkington glass and both cracked
Safelight used a cheap crap grade of pilkington - they said it was OEM, it was not and cracked the first week from a small rock.
