Windshield OEM Toyota or Pilkington

Pilkington Windshield

I was able to find a small specialist shop that did mine for $400 flat. Not OEM but Pilkinton. I did not have him do the calibration, he said you don't need it if the install is done correctly. I have had zero issues since.

Pros: zero issues

Replaced with my current glass which is Pilkington and it's been like 7 months without chips or cracks, which is the longest I've had an immaculate windshield in the entire time I've owned the car.

Pros: no chips or cracks

Just had mine replaced in my 2019. Used Pilkington as well and I can’t tell the difference from the OEM glass.

Pros: same as OEM glass

Late to the conversation, but I'll say windshields I've owned that say "Toyota" or "Lexus" have lasted years, but windshields that said FUYAO or Pilkington cracked within a few months.

Pros: Toyota/Lexus windshields last years
Cons: FUYAO/Pilkington cracked quickly
Vehicle: Lexus IS

My 2020 Prime windshield broke. Aftermarket glass was used, and my auto wipers didn't work. A Toyota dealer tech determined the bracket for the sensing gel pack was not positioned correctly and said OEM glass was necessary. After getting OEM glass, it now works correctly.

Pros: auto wipers work correctly, correct bracket fitment
Vehicle: Toyota Prius

Just search windshield in this sub and you'll find many like minded souls. The OEM windows are paper thin and prone to chips, cracks, and tiny chips that turn into 3 foot cracks.

Cons: paper thin, prone to cracks

I would rather buy the original BMW/Pilkington windshield from the junkyard and get it installed than get one replacement Chinese sh*t from insurance coverage. Replacements are not as thick, they are wavy and yep in general - crap.

Pros: cheaper than replacement
Cons: wavy, not as thick
Vehicle: BMW

I once had a 1988 Toyota Pickup that had existed for 32 years with its original windshield, and within six months I caught two separate rocks to it. Very frustrating

Cons: cracks easily, frustrating
Vehicle: Toyota
