Safelite put an OEM VW branded windshield in a year ago. No issues so far
I have a 2020 CX5 GT and had to replace the windshield. It took two months to get the OEM windshield. It was worth the wait.
I had never replaced a winshield in over 20 years of driving until I got my 2018 MK7.5 Golf Alltrack. Rock, crack, new winshield.
Yep. Was especially noticeable on my 15 GTI. Less so on later models but all have it to some degree.
My 2019 CX5 had 3 cracks in the first year. Had 7 in total by the time I replaced it last year at Safelite.
I’m on my fourth windshield so far. I try to give semi‘s a wide berth and have a respectable following distance, but no luck. Worst was having to replace the windshield twice within a year.
The OEM one seems quite fragile.
My previous car was a ‘21 Mazda 3. The factory windshield was SO fragile in my opinion. Granted I live in AZ where rock chips are extremely common. I had 3 chips that quickly turned into 3 huge cracks within about a 6 month time frame.
I've had 2 cx5's and they seem cursed with windscreen chips. First one had a similar sized chip within a couple months of owning, 2nd one had a chip that would fail the MOT, so got it repaired, then a week later got another chip slightly above the repaired spot! Never had a car where the windscreen loves being stoned this much!
Full replacement in October and 3 star chips filled this month. The replacement was a nightmare, they ordered OEM, but didn't realize there are different windshields for different trim levels until they'd installed it and couldn't connect the rearview mirror. Can't say its a defect since it was a decent sized gravel each time while driving 75.
