I got an aftermarket windshield, specifically it was a Pilkington and the HUD works fine, but it does have to be a HUD windshield. Only issue was the display was at a slight angle, but that can be adjusted via the settings

Pros: HUD works fine
Cons: display at slight angle

I had mine replaced in November by a local shop. They recalibrated eyesight and it works fine. The new windshield is the Plinkington glass which I heard is more durable than the factory.

Pros: more durable than factory
Vehicle: Subaru

OEM BMW Windshield

If you are paying out of pocket, you should insist on an OEM windshield. Otherwise, the HUD may not be clear or focused.

Pros: clear HUD, focused HUD

Imo, pilk is the better glass, but more so for quality control than overall quality. Personally, I install more fuyao than anything. If everything looks good run with it.

Pros: better glass, quality control

Pilkington Windshield

They used a Pilkington, and the HUD is blurry- just like my FIRST FACTORY FITTED CARLEX- NO BETTER NO WORSE), no BMW logo, no connected drive inscribed on the glass on the top. But it is an acoustic glass with HUD compatbility- Optics wise no difference, Noise levels about the same, Lane tracking etc works the same as before this incident. No leaks.

Pros: acoustic glass, no leaks
Cons: blurry HUD
Vehicle: BMW X3

Don't get the Subaru glass. It sucks. It's thin and cracks easily. Try to get a Pilkington replacement if you can. Much better! My Subaru glass lasted less than a year before cracking. I've had the Pilkington for two now and have taken a handful of rocks off of it. Still looks good as new.

Pros: Pilkington much better, looks good
Cons: Subaru glass sucks, thin
