I recently had my windshield replaced in my '18 OBW with third-party glass. Used a small local glass shop in a medium size town. They calibrated it in their garage and it has been flawless.
I called a local 3rd party shop and had them order the glass from BMW and then they installed in when it arrived from Germany about 2 weeks later. Saved me about $1500 vs. BMW of Austin asking $3200 installed (HUD, Driver Assist Camera, etc) including recalibration. Was ~$1700 all-in for OE glass and recal of the driver aides and HUD. Could have gotten it about $600 cheaper with 3rd party glass, but have heard horror stories about how cheap glass can mess up visibility of the HUD so stuck with OE BMW glass.
Got my Outback used with 46k miles on it (23 model) and it is completely covered in tiny little chips. They don’t go through but they reflect like crazy when the sun is low. Hate it and strongly considering trying to get a new windshield. Will consider a protection film if I do that. Not bad enough to fail inspection but just one of those things that gets under my skin. Must be weaker glass- never seen that before like this
2025 Forester purchased in early June already has 2 of these chips. We have never experienced this in any of our past vehicles, including an Outback that was part of the class action class. This is an obvious quality issue.
I've had lots of issues with it (I've replaced 3 windshields in my first ~21 years of driving and ~10 in 10 years with the subarus with eyesight).
Man Subaru glasses probably some of the worst I've ever seen. I've owned a WRX since 2020 both VA and VB at this point I wasn't able to get 4 months into my VB before I replace the windshield.
Subaru windshields are crap, really.
The glass quality on Subaru Forester since 2014+ is a shit!.... Subaru windshields are shit.
My 21 outback went through 3 windows. 4 total before selling.
I had one not a week after I bought my 2022 - it seems like Subaru's windshields like to crack and I don't want to be constantly replacing windshields.
