Water pump OEM Toyota or OEM Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

id buy the whole water pump, because you dont know exactly where the leak is. i did mine over the winter and in my case one of the inlets cracked badly. I bought this part: 06J-121-026-BG, and even though it had a sensor on one of the coolant outlet pipes, I didnt plug anything in it and its been fine.

Pros: inlets cracked badly, sensor fine
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: 06J-121-026-BG

Over the weekend this is how I did the water pump. I didn't have 2 hydraulic jacks, so I had to come up with some other idea. When I took out the water pump, I think the seal was starting to leak. Cleaned up area and reinstalled with new water pump.

Pros: new water pump installed
Cons: seal was starting leak

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

I’ve had my car for over 5 years now and currently have 140k miles, and my water pump just recently failed me. Which is surprising because my car did lose a little bit of coolant over time, I would always top off with G13. Water pump failed and it’s currently being replaced, other than that, I think that’s fair for age and mileage.

Pros: long lifespan (140k miles)
Cons: water pump failed
Mileage: 225308 km

VW water pumps have been faulty for decades with no correction for them in site, and carbon buildup will happen *no matter what.*

Cons: faulty for decades
Vehicle: Volkswagen

After 2 water pumps... I sold my MK6. Thankfully it was all under warranty but having to leave my car at the dealer every other month cost me just as much in time.

Pros: covered by warranty
Cons: frequent failures, time consuming repairs

Cons: repeated failure, difficult access

I’m on #4, but luckily all were replaced under warranty. Most recent was in 2019 when supposedly they had finally found and fixed the issue (not sure what ended up being the cause)

One of them hadn’t even failed yet, and they replaced it under recall since a new revision had come out

Pros: replaced under warranty
Cons: frequent failures, multiple replacements

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

My mk6 went through THREE water pumps. All covered under warranty because a class action lawsuit forced VW to extend the coverage period several years, but still a pain in the ass. What's frustrating is that VW kept replacing them with the same faulty pump instead of addressing the problem and redesigning it.

Cons: frequent failures, faulty design, pain to replace
