Changed it at 9 years / 93k. Belt was still fine but the water pump started to leak so did the timing belt job at the same time. Also upgraded the water pump with one with a metal impeller

Pros: upgraded water pump

Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat
Mileage: 93000 km

We've had a 2009 GTI since new and now has 110k. In the last 16 years, we've replaced 2 water pumps, one dsg mech unit (under warranty), abs unit, pcv valve, rear main seal and in the past year, timing chain and guides as preventative maintenance.

Pros: preventative maintenance
Cons: replaced water pumps, abs unit
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 110000 km

I have no idea how there isn't a class action against VW for those shoddy waterpumps tho. Had to do it on my one and literally every VW owner I've spoken to has had it be a problem

Cons: shoddy quality, common problem

OEM FORD Water pump

This is why I’ve avoided the 3.5/3.7 Duratec engines in transverse (front wheel drive) platforms. It’s just fine in rear wheel drive applications as those use an external pump driven by the serpentine belt.

Pros: external pump fine
Cons: internal pump avoided
Vehicle: Ford
