I usually use rock auto and get the gmb outlander pump.
I would STRONGLY recommend you to buy ONLY a BMW stamped WP. I learned my lesson the hard way and want to help you avoid my mistakes. The main thing that fails in electric water pumps is the electronics, and the ones not stamped with a BMW logo often have these issues.
GMB is a decent pump.
Same shit different box. Sometimes the aftermarket takes care of issues as well like bmw and older Audi/Vw plastic water pump impellers, where most aftermarket ones are metal.
Mine was still going at 123k. I did have a shadow code (2E85) but that had been there for years. I decided to replace it out of caution and. Now have about 10k on the new one.
I replaced both mine and my dad's with GMB. Mechanic recommend it too. So far so good.
I checked the old water pump and took it out by removing the front plate of the engine... The old water pump moves fine but it does make a squeaking noise and is quite old however it does move.
I replaced my water pump at about 205K miles. I had seen someone on e90post mentioning he saw fault codes before his pump failed. I decided I could wait if I kept a close eye. At about 205K miles was when I saw a fault code via ISTA/D. It mentioned something about "...water pump speed deviation..."
This has happened to my husband. He drives 2021 m340i with 17k miles. Water pump exploded last night.
Yup that's how my Z3 once tried to kill me. Doing 90kph on the off ramp and the ol water pump decided to retire. In the process dousing my rear wheels in coolant.
