I like Yokohama's approach: In regards to handling, the tires were not destined for track duty, so we experienced a level of performance that was slightly above the standard OE tire on most modern passenger vehicles. A few of us did the sentiment that the tire did improve its ability to stay planted after a few hot laps, which would give credence to Yokohama\u2019s claim that the special compound will change its handling characteristics for the better when driven aggressively.
I have had these on for a few weeks. They are super quiet and have an amazing ride.
I picked a set of these tires up from Bob a few months ago, I didn't want to wear out my RE-11's doing daily driving so I needed a second set of tires. The only thing I noticed about them is they do have a bit of road noise that comes in around 30-50km, but that is it. Performance and traction wise they are pretty good; infact better than most touring tires IMO. They handle equally well in the rain and with a higher treadwear rating they should last at least three or four summers for me.
Well, I put a set of Achilles Platinums on my vehicle today. On another forum 2 guys were having a raging debate about the good vs. bad on these tires. Even though these tires are relatively new to North America they do have a racing pedigree in Europe, and they very well exceed the standard American standards for compliance.
I got em... I don't beat on them though. I don't have them stretched or anything, just OEM tire size 205/50 on my Speedlines. They look good. Water performance is scary if you do anything stupid, drive like a normal human being (your findings may vary...). Other then that, they are a really great tire for daily driver use. I've had mine on... I want to say 15k miles. I need to rotate them though.
I ran s.drives on my mk5 for a little while (ended up getting rid of them because some jackass at the tire place used the wrong wheels weights and the tires cupped badly) I was pretty happy with them, stuck well, not too loud (but had some noise for sure), and decently priced.
I bought some Yokohama YK520s. As for performance they drive well and don't seem to squeal as much when they spin. The handling is very good and the ride is about the same as the Michelins. They road noise is also similar. They handle wet real well
I have Sdrives on my car, and love them. They suck in the snow, but are great in the wet and dry.

I would suggest staying away from the Yokohama Advan ST. I have the 285-14-19s on my egg and while a great handling and traction tire, after 7K miles they are cupping and I get a low speed noise and vibration to the point that at 8K I am replacing them
