Tires Toyo or Nokia

Nokia Tires

Just installed the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV tire. They come with the right load range and speed rating and are surprisingly quiet on the road. I don't have but a few miles on them, but they look good and fit nicely though at 33" instead of 34".

Pros: quiet on the road

Those Nokian's are one reason I went and purchased a Subaru in 2013.

Friend has the Hakkapeliitta's on his Outback.

On the year it snowed heavily, had an emergency call out. I wasn't going anywhere.

He called and said "I'll take you" and my reply was "in what? A snowmobile?" His reply " no, Outback". I was like yeah..sure

Half hour, I hear his horn outside. He takes us to a lot not plowed and said get in and drive.

I was like, OK I'm close to home, I can walk back.

I put it in drive, sep on the gas and HOLY SHIT! It was amazing!

He took me on the parkway, people sliding, going off into grass or worse. Us? Cruising like it was spring.

Found he had the Nokian Hakkapeliitta's on. Damn things are so good, you could climb a tree

On the way back, we pulled out countless cars, SUV's and trucks from snowbanks, woods etc.

That sold me on both Subaru and those Hakkapeliitta's!

Pros: amazing grip, climb a tree

The Nokians are a solid choice. After extensive research I went with Michelin X-Ice for better hydroplaning and lower rolling resistance. All other testing categories were within the margin of error.

Pros: better hydroplaning, lower resistance

The Toyo at3 on the other hand has been great, a lot lighter which makes driving a lot more fun and less fuel consumption, basically no road noise and a lot cheaper then the ko2's

Pros: lighter, less road noise
Cons: none
Vehicle: Suzuki Jimny

Not sure what you went with but the Nokian WR G4 are great tires. I've used 4 pairs of the WR type of tires over 15 years in Michigan, Oregon, Utah(In the Canyon), Washington and Colorado on a front wheel and AWD drive SUVs/cars. They work great and are snow tires.

Pros: work great, are snow tires
Cons: mileage not as good

Toyo Tires

Been through a few mild winter weather snow storms on the factory Toyos. They're ok but far from confidence inspiring on any kind of hill. Even getting up my driveway was a challenge.

Pros: ok in mild snow
Cons: not confidence inspiring
Vehicle: Mazda

R888Rs don't deserve being called a track tire in my opinion. Decent for the street guys who make power and don't want to replace tires every 2 months, but they can't touch most modern 200TWs. Not to mention they grease up super fast and will fall off halfway through a 20 minute HPDE session.

Pros: decent for street use
Cons: grease up super fast
