That said Nitto Ridge Grapplers are a good compromise. Considered a ‘Mud Terrain hybrid’ but have great street manners.
Nitto Ridge Grapplers are a pretty good middle ground. Aggressive and capable tread pattern with sidewall lugs for offroading, but softer and quieter than full on M/T.
2018 explorer tire upgrade 265/50/20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers
I have a set of these, 6 years. Never a single issue. They are a little harder but nothing like what you would expect from the comments.
I’m replacing them tomorrow with a new set 6 years to the day from when I 1st put them on.
They are amazing tires. Hands down the best I have ever owned in 30 years of driving.
Nitto tires use a lot of the same tech as Toyo (who owns them) so you are just seeing a decent AT truck tire wearing like it should. All the no grip comments are funny this is a truck tire not a sport tire. Nitto has a winter line as well that is great and very inexpensive.
I put a set of Nittos on my F-150 and love them. It came with crappy all terrain tires that were noisy and didn’t handle well in the rain. The new tires are far more quiet, especially at interstate speeds, and have better grip when the weather isn’t cooperating.
Nitto makes a good snow tire also. I had the SN-2 on my Tiguan, and wished the SN-3 was available in the US... which I would immediately buy if given the opportunity.
I had NeoGens (205/50r15) and liked the way they looked, and they handled great in dry weather... But would break loose in wet pretty easily. And while I had them I didn't notice the road noise until... I got some Continental ExtremeContact Sports (205/50r15) These guys have much less road noise, except at slower speeds where you can hear every single tiny rock and pebble tossed up in the wheel well lol. But they look fantastic and are incredible in dry AND wet weather!
I used them on my work truck and didn’t like how fast they wore out on the road, and I didn’t find they were any better than my KO2’s in the mud/snow/off-road. I got 40,000 miles out of them before I got newer tires.
Love nittos on my other truck, but for the raptor theyre terrible, horrible in rain, loud, and heavy as a mf.
