When i bought my GTI 1.8T it came with the Nexen n3000 and personally i liked them the road handling was quite good and they seem to handle well in the wet also. The tread lasted me quite long and id say for about 14000 miles and they still had 6-7/32 tread left when i sold them. Honestly i am thinking of buying them again!
I put on the nexens yesterday and they seem to handle well. There is hardly any road noise on the highway and for the price i can't complain.........
our options in streetable tires that i know of are: 205 60 14 yokohama es 100
I ran Yokohama A008's back then, since it was only a sunny day/auto-X car.
i have these mounted on my van with roughly 15K miles on them. They are very tough little tires but be warned, they ride like a low-profile tire, so you will feel every crack in the road, especially when inflated to 45-65PSI (they are rated up to 65psi cold, load range-D) the upside is when they are fully inflated, they make your van very stable in sidewinds and going around corners, switching lanes etc....
I love the AVS ES100's..I have 3 sets of them on the past 2 car's I've owned...they're an awesome wet tire & dry tire....but they're not as grippy as the azeni's...
Yokohama AVS 100 - just put them on my wife's Cabrio and I am JEALOUS! Her car is bone-stock and the handling has vastly improved! I highly recommed these tires as far as handling and driving comfort are concerned. No idea about tread wear, since they're only 1000 miles old.
i love my yokohama avs es100. should be in ur range for the 225/45/17. my 225/40/18 were $143 a piece i believe. i love them. we have them on our 600whp prelude, my roomates s2000....i have nothing but good things to say about them.
At 1,100 miles replaced the 18 w/Contis with 20"Cayenne rims w/Yokohama AVS S/Ts. It tracks like an arrow now!
I have Yokohama AVSDBs they are pretty bad in the snow But fun in empty parking lots
