New Michelin ps4s on my rsx type-s. World of difference over the crap it had on.
Went from 28lb OEM wheels --> 18lb aftermarket and OEM Goodyear Eagles to Michelin Pilot Sports, it's a night & day difference.
I have Michelin cross climate tires on my suv and have zero issues in winter conditions. As long as you know your vehicle and drive to the conditions, all weather tires are fine for 90% of driving conditions, even when going to Banff.
I had 2 of the exact same vehicle (Subaru Outback). One had Michelin X-Ice dedicated winter tires and the other had Michelin Cross Climate All Weather tires. Last year, after a fresh snowfall, I took both cars out, drove down the street and took quick turns, braking, starts from stop etc. I then went to an open parking lot and did the same. I didn't notice much difference at all in those types of conditions.
I just got some extra winters Michelin X ice snow 225/65/17 if interested I can give you a bargain, tread is amazing I used another set up my last winters and I’ll never use anything else.
Some all weather tires - like the Michelin CrossClimate2s - can outperform cheap / low tier winter tires.
If you do go for all weathers, get the Michelin Cross Climate 2s. It always surprises me how good they are in snow. They're probably the closest you'll get to winter tire performance.
Michelin crossclimate 2 is hands down the best all season tire. They perform very well at at temperatures and road conditions. They feel like a snow tire on snow, shed water in the rain very well and holds traction on dry roads like a summer tire. They also hold up very well for a long time
I now drive on x-ice snow, and I don’t have a comparison (I buy new winter tires every 6 years or so on different vehicles) but I do find the x-ice snow to lose grip somewhat rapidly at the limit, and prefer a more gradual slip at limit.
I replaced them 2 years ago with a set of Michelin Primacy Tour A/S. I’ve been pretty unhappy with the Michelins from the time I got them…I think the Yokohamas rode better and were quieter
