I tried both Golf GTI with 195/65-15 and the R32 with 225/40-18 last winter, and the R32 was much better to drive even if the tyres are wider. I have 225/45-17 today (winter tyres, without spikes of course!) and they are awesome. Quite, nice handling

Pros: nice handling, quite

I had some Hakka's on my 85 Vanagon, all four wheels, they were very good. Felt better in most cases on snow than the summer Dunlops did on dry pavement.

Pros: very good on snow

When I bought my 85 Vanagon used, it needed new tires, I went with some Dunlops that I wasn't very impressed with. Plus they were summer only. In 2000 I bought some Nokian snow tires that I was very impressed with. If I held on to the van I would have probably tried one of their summer or all season tires.

Pros: very impressed

We have been running the Hakka 1's now for a few days and all I have to say about them is they are the best studded winter tire we have used to date. They drive awesome in dry weather and I notice they stick to the road in turns even with studs.

Pros: drive awesome in dry weather, stick to the road

Had my first snow experience with the WRs on my way yo work today. Obviously not the grip of a studded tire, but I think they perform just as good as the Blizzaks.

Pros: perform just as good
Cons: not the grip

I've driven 3 winters with Nokian Q:s. 2.5 with 185/65-14 and 1/2 winter with 195/55-15 and with 15" Q:s handling was much better but grip was same as the 14".

Pros: handling was much better
Cons: grip was same

ditto on the nokias. my last set saw 6 winters (about 30,000 miles) and were still going strong. quiet at crusiing speeds and handle resonably well for snow tires - i'd rather been on my summer rubber for an emergency maneuver, but i've dodged a few deers on the Nokias with no problem.

Pros: quiet at crusiing speeds
Mileage: 48280 km

I'm a firm believer in Nokians. I have 3 year old 16" Nokian NRWs on my Passat Wagon 1.8T 5 speed, and my wife's Passat Wagon 1.8T Tip is riding on brand new 16" Nokian WRs. With the ESP and the Nokians, my wife's car feels invincible in snow - which is exactly how I want it to be. Both sets are rated for extreme conditions AND provide excellent dry-road performance with minimal noise.

Pros: excellent dry-road performance, minimal noise

MICHELIN Tires

We have Michelins on our 02 and Continentals on our 03. Performance wise (both wet, dry, snow & ice) they are pretty close to equals. We just don't have enough miles to compare wear yet.

Pros: close to equals

Michelin's came with my car and I have no complaints about them. They handle well in both dry and wet weather and I like the ride I get from them

Pros: handle well, good ride
