Tires MICHELIN or IRONMAN

MICHELIN Tires

Recommendation:
- Michelin Cross Climate 2 with padding. I get them from Discount Tires, I buy their insurance. What you pay upfront is what you get in back end. I have had a few total replacements with no cost.

Pros: safe, over 35k miles usage
Cons: expensive

MICHELIN Tires

I found Michelin Road 5s to keep their excellent feel in the wet and the cold. I commuted in under 10 degrees F and through snowstorms on them several times. Obviously slowed way down in the snow, but the tires kept telling me they had more grip if I wanted it.

Pros: excellent feel in wet

Very decent snow tires despite not being all-out winters. AMAZING in the rain. Aquaplane resistance is second to none, great straight line grip, pretty good in the corners. My current set is down to about 5/16 and is losing grip like crazy, but that is expected. It took 70k miles to get down to 5/16, by the way.

Pros: AMAZING in the rain
Cons: losing grip
Mileage: 112654 km

Crossclimate 2 on 2016 Civic over 70k miles on them and still good (per Costco, I still have about 15020K miles on them). They are very good on water and ok in snow. HOWEVER they become noisier as they age.

Pros: very good on water
Cons: become noisier
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 112654 km

Just got a set of CC2’s last week for my XT6. Already have them on our minivan and my son’s Fusion (my previous work vehicle). I don’t notice anymore road noise from the CC2 compared to the OEM tire (Michelin Primacy Tour). We just got about 8” of snow yesterday in to today and the CC2 are significantly better in the snow than the PT were last winter. I have a short ride to the office now but I went through 2 sets of CC2’s on the Fusion when I was driving 100+ miles a day to my previous job and they were excellent in all conditions at highway speeds.

Pros: excellent in all conditions
Cons: null

I have Michelin CrossClimates2 on **awd**. If we get a surprise early storm they are.....fine. On true ice they can't get up/down a steep driveway. So I'd rather not test them braking on ice either (luckily never had this situation come up).

Pros: fine in early storm
Cons: can't get up ice

The OEM tires - Michelin EnergySaver AS - are great for efficiency and pretty bad for everything else. Went through two sets, and both were consistently bad in rain and snow. One of the tires on the second set got ripped on the *sidewall* as it hit a pothole, and I found out later that the sidewalls were indeed a bit of weakness for them.

Pros: great for efficiency
Cons: bad in rain, weak sidewalls
