Tires MICHELIN or DEXTER

MICHELIN Tires

I've been using them in the last 3 seasons. Michelin cross climate 2. They wear out bit faster but those tires doing great. No slipping, good control during snowfall. No problem on sludge roads but a bit weak on ice.

Pros: good control, no slipping
Cons: weak on ice, wear faster

MICHELIN Tires

Look at Michelin cross climate 2. Will still qualify for your winter tire discount on your insurance, but not annoying having to swap and store tires twice a year. They perform absolutely fine in the winter snow and slush. Tread life and noise are excellent on the cross climate 2s. I've driven in serious snow and they perform extremely well.

Pros: excellent tread life, quiet
Cons: none

If you have to buy tires for your car, most Michelin tires are made in Canada. Just bought some snow tires for the car and went for the Michelin X-Ice.

Pros: Michelin tires made in Canada

I swapped my G80 from PS4S to PS4AS in early October, which lets me send it on the \\~75% of winter days that are dry and cold, but no snow or ice.

Pros: good for dry, cold days
Vehicle: BMW

MICHELIN Tires

Picked up a new set of Cross Climate 2’s over the weekend. Handling is great, especially in the rain. Aesthetically, I think they look super cool and unique. They have an aggressive look to them.

That being said, I did not do my due diligence beforehand and let the guy at discount t*re give me the run down on them. One thing he failed to mention was the lack of efficiency they bring (not blaming him). In my first couple of drives I noticed my wh/mi to be well over 300 and in one instance on a 5 mile drive it was 395 wh/mi. Crazy! This is in comparison to my average of 252 wh/mi for the last 5k miles I’ve driven. It’s important to note that I like to accelerate fast and have had the heat on due to the cold weather coming in (Chicago native).

I wanted to see how much of a difference it made if I changed my driving habits so for the past 15 miles or so. I turned “chill” mode on and turned off the AC system and have averaged around 210 wh/mi. Nice to know that efficiency is still attainable just a bit sad that I will be losing 30%+ of range when driving how I normally do.

Hoping that with time they will break in and I will see that number go down a bit. I will update the thread as I put more miles on them.

Pros: great handling, aggressive look
Cons: reduced efficiency, range loss

PS4S gets slimy and the car will get loose 5 minutes into a track session or on hot autox days.

Cons: gets slimy, car gets loose
