I'd recommed the Dunlop A2/60's in a 185/60R14 (obviously).. they handle well, last a long time (if you rotate them every 5000 miles or so), and they don't cost an arm and a leg..

Pros: handle well, last long
Cons: rotate every 5000 miles
Mileage: 8000 km

DUNLOP Tires

I'm coming off a set of Dunlop Sp5000s and the stock Michellins. Driving is all highly spirited street driving only, no AutoX. Plenty of heavy rain driving, some light snow use. Total Miles Michellin: 28k Dunlop: 23k Kumho: 20k (expected) Wet Traction Dunlops, superb .. wet Dunlops like dry Michellins. could drive at highway speeds in monsoon and car tracked perfectly straight. Amazing. Dry Traction Dunlops, hard to peel (very sticky). Can take corners significantly faster than with Michellins. On one of my favorite corners can take it at least 10mph faster (wide off-camber left sweeper going into a sharp off camber right S). Panic Stops Dunlops, hardly ever kicked on the ABS High Speed Maneouvers Dunlops, can do some wild ****te .. a little squeamish doing funny stuff at 120+ speeds. Overall much better than the Michellins Snow Dunlops get a big thumbs up. But, if you've got the extra scratch, go for the Dunlops.

Pros: superb wet traction, very sticky, faster cornering, good in snow
Cons: a little squeamish at high speeds
Mileage: 23000 km

Kumho Tires

As for the Kuhmo 712 it is a great, cheap tire for dry and rain conditions but in the bigger sizes that I have experience with (i.e. 225/45ZR17) they stunk in the snow.

Pros: great tire, cheap
Cons: stunk in the snow

It's been raining non stop since yesterday and here are my first impression on the Kuhmos: * They are very quiet on wet roads and expressways. * Off the line are way grippier than the Proxes. Under hard take offs in wet roads the Proxes spun a lot more than these Kuhmos. * The Kuhmos grip better on wet curves, tracking is excellent.

Pros: very quiet, grippier than Proxes
