nowadays, the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 can t be beat if price/performance/longevity have to be taken into account i can get 4x 245-40-17 for less than 400 bucks and they'll be at my door in a day from tirerack

Pros: price, performance, longevity

the summitomo HTR-200 are a relatively decent tire. They are super cheap and come in several sizes that would work for you.

Pros: super cheap, decent tire

I just got 4 Sumitomo HTR Z III's and they were super cheap, 300 treadwear rating, pretty sweet tread pattern, and reinforced sidewall, all for $107 a piece from TireRack, pretty reasonable. There's almost no road noise and they grip pretty well, I just hope they last!

Pros: super cheap, grips well
Cons: hope they last

My experience is that they balance just fine but yes, they do have a thin (2 ply nylon?) sidewall, which is why I inflate them to 51 PSI as per manufacturer's spec and they do great! This is a diesel Jetta so the fastest I've driven them at a constant speed was about 80mph from central Connecticut to midcoast Maine. I also drove the Jetta from Maine to Seattle 2 summers ago with over a thousand pounds of "stuff" in and on the car. They behaved just fine and did excellent in the horrible rainstorms I encountered in Illinois.

Pros: balance just fine, good in rain
Cons: thin sidewall

SUMITOMO Tires

Had them on the Jetta for 2 years now. Great summer tire for general use. Don't expect it to handle sporty or go anywhere in the snow. But they do have a very low rolling resistance and will reward you with better mileage.

Pros: low rolling resistance, better mileage
Cons: not for sporty use, not for snow

Hankook Tires

I replaced mine with Hankook Ventus HRII's, which have performed quite well for the price (I got 18"s for about 110 each). Definitely more grip off the line than the OEM Michelin's and P6's (I've driven both).

Pros: more grip off the line

SUMITOMO Tires

I have the 185/60-13's and the sidewall is super flimsy as well. I couldn't complain on the price though!

Pros: good price
Cons: super flimsy sidewall

SUMITOMO Tires

they are actually very poor tires. the sidewall is super soft an the compound is far from ideal. i ran these in maybe two autox's an they were just plain sad.

Cons: super soft sidewall, poor compound
