So 5 thousand miles ago (at 50K miles) I finally replaced those Bridgestones with the Hankooks because they were the only ones that I could find that seemed to check all the boxes; that said, it was a huge gamble as I'd never tried Hankooks before on any vehicle and knew virtually nothing about them.

And wow did it pay off. I think I measured that interior sound levels have dropped about 5 dB at 70 mph (from 70 dB to 65 dB); ride comfort is extraordinarily improved to the point that it feels like a newer build Model Y with their improved suspension (I know because I've rented them via Hertz a few times); and crucially -- and this is coming from somewhat of a tire geek here -- I have never, ever experienced such astonishing hydroplaning resistance before. During our recent California storm (Feb 2024) I had the chance to drive through absolutely bucketing, torrential conditions on the freeway, and standing water that would have previously turned our car into a boat were carved through like an icebreaker ship through, er, ice. Or a hot knife through butter. Whatever.

And yes, best of all, our (still inexplicably dismal) range has jumped a whopping 34% or so on average, from about 145 mi to about 195 mi

Pros: improved ride comfort, hydroplaning resistance
Cons: range still dismal
Mileage: 8000 km

Of all the big name brands I've had, by far the most comfortable were Continentals (sport or premium contact) nothing came close for pure comfort. I don't get them often because they wear very fast but pure comfort and grip they are outstanding. Thier sport contact line is amazingly comfortable considering they are a performance tyre

Pros: pure comfort and grip
Cons: wear very fast

Continental Tires

I think the OP made a great decision in getting some Continental DWS 06 tires vs. using those summer tires. I have used Conti DWS 06 tires in Winter while living in Colorado, Maine, Mississippi and now Germany. For places like Colorado and Maine, I'd recommend the Conti DWS 06 as a 3-season tire and then using a dedicated Winter tire. For Mississippi, the Conti DWS 06 is all you will ever need even for the most severe MS Winter. For Germany the Conti DWS 06 is doing a great job, for the severe winter days that are quite seldom, I have my Atlas with 4Motion and All-Weather tires.

Pros: great job, good winter
Cons: dedicated winter needed
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Honestly, I was surprised how refined in terms of NVH the Continental Sport Contact 7 is. I've got them in 235/35 R19 and comfort-wise I wasn't expecting anything to be honest, but it was a nice surprise!

Pros: refined NVH, comfortable

Recently got the continental extremecontact dws06 plus. Very happy with them. Softer ride and good all season traction. Great performance for everyday driving and some backroads on the weekend

Pros: softer ride, good traction

Continental Tires

I had to replace my PS4s at 15000 miles, the rears were toast. After a lot of research and asking fb group, also went with Continental Extreme Contact DSW06 and am very happy with them so far. I'd say just as grippy as the Michelins but all-season which I needed to change to plus tread wear warranty is good

Pros: grippy, good tread wear warranty
Mileage: 15000 km

Hankook Tires

Years ago I had an enlightening experience with Hankook Dynapro MTs, when I broke a tire and for a few weeks in winter had a a siped tire on on end of the rear axle and an unsiped tire on the other. The limited slip had to work very hard to keep me on the road in ice conditions in 2WD.

Pros: similar traction
Cons: limited slip had work

These tires are not great. My GTI I bought had them on and I’m just riding them out. This will be their last season. They’ve been loud the entire time I’ve had them and aren’t great on any road condition.

Pros: last season
Cons: loud, not great
Vehicle: Volkswagen
