Tires FEDERAL or SUMITOMO

SUMITOMO Tires

I'm very happy with my [Sumitomo HTR Z III](https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Sumitomo&tireModel=HTR+Z+III), for an affordable high performance tire. It's not going to last 60k miles, but it was a lot of fun slaying the Tail of the Dragon.

Pros: affordable high performance tire
Cons: not going to last

I have a set of Federal 595RS-Pro's on my ATS-V. I have not had them on their long but I have been able to do one autocross on them and it improved my performance significantly. Also, I can confirm that they are not noisy on the road.

Pros: improved performance, not noisy
Cons: longevity unknown

SUMITOMO Tires

I have been using the Sumitomo HTR A/S P02s for the last 80k (just go 3rd set on front) as a good compromise in price and quality.

Pros: good price, good quality
Mileage: 128747 km

I’ve been running Federals lately - RS-RR’s and RS-Pros - and both have been fantastic. Excellent grip, long wearing and cheap. Only gripe is the noise which is atrocious.

Pros: excellent grip, long wearing
Cons: atrocious noise

If it's any consolation, after what I've experienced with the RR I would not hesitate to put a set of PROs on a daily driver for the summer. They have incredible grip for the price, I and a couple of friends have been able to remain competitive on the RR. I would assume from the RR they will have good cold grip, making them good in the wet as long as you don't go through puddles.

Pros: incredible grip, good cold grip

I’ve been a Federal fan for a few years now. Downfall of the RR’s was the road noise, the Pro has fixed that. Can’t wait to hit the track this year with them.

Pros: fixed road noise
Cons: road noise

I like them for the price. Grip is great and noise is definitely less than the RS-RRs. They are certainly not RE71s or Rivals but I can buy two sets for the price of top tier. They also run wide as hell. They also wear like iron. Same as the RS-RR.

Pros: great grip, wear like iron
Cons: not top tier
Vehicle: Ford Fiesta

Note to self, don’t cheap out on tires. (Federal SS 595). These aren’t bad bad but for autocross they need to be better.

Pros: not bad
Cons: need to be better

I daily drive with the Sumitomos they are alright in the dry but I do find they aren't as good in the wet. They do feel pretty predictable when driving hard and the tire wear isn't too bad.

Pros: predictable when driving hard
Cons: not good in wet

I've had the sumitomos before. they were ok, quieter but not very grippy. They looked awesome though. They also sucked when it was cold ( turned into bricks and thumped until they warmed up )

Pros: quieter, looked awesome
Cons: not very grippy, bad cold
