Tires Falken or Maxxis

Falken Tires

I’ve had the falken at3’s for the last 4 years. Amazing tires that have treated me very well. Great in all conditions with good throttle control and very good wet weather grip compared to the KO2’s I had before.

Pros: amazing tires, great grip

Falken Tires

Falken WinterPeak F-Snow 1. It's one of the cheapest winter tires - about $80/tire in the 195/65R15 size - but test results show it competes well with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5, Continental VikingContact 7, and Michelin X-Ice Snow, which are the gold standards in premium winter tires. It looks like the Falken suffers a little with dry handling, so just don't drive your Corolla like a sports car. The Falken is still competitive in the wet, snow, and ice, which is where it really matters.

Pros: competitive in wet, snow, ice
Cons: suffers with dry handling

I have been running 265/75/16's SL with 2 ply standard sidewall for the last 30k miles on a first gen tundra. I run them pretty hard on and off road, including airing down. I haven't had any issues and am hard pressed getting a much heavier tire since these have performed so well

Pros: performed so well, no issues
Cons: not lasting as long
Mileage: 48280 km

I'm on my second set. I got just about 64k miles over three years before they were cracking and down to 3/32. I just don't have the same confidence in those so I went back to the A/T Trails. They definitely grip the road better and are less bouncy.

Pros: grip the road better
Cons: less bouncy
Mileage: 103000 km

Maxxis Tires

The only thing I’d add is I’d suggest them in Maxxspeed, but they are only available in 2.35. Rode them front/rear last season and they were excellent.

Pros: they were excellent
Cons: only available in 2.35

Maxxis Tires

I've been really impressed recently with the Conti tires (Cross Kings or Race Kings depending on how XC you want to go with it), specifically the ProTection versions with the Black Chili compound. Coming from Maxxis stuff I've been surprised by the amount of grip they have given how fast-rolling they are, at least for my local conditions (New England, so rocks, roots, more roots, a few roots, some roots, roots, rocks, roots, some more roots, a lot of roots, and roots.)

Pros: amount of grip
Cons: hard to find

Maxxis Tires

Rekon Race is super fast if it has enough traction for you. If not, Rekon isn't a bad tire to try. Not as fast, but it won't give out when you push it too hard.

Pros: not bad tire
Cons: not as fast

Maxxis Tires

Specialized control tyres and it’s not even close.

No it’s not worth the “premium” as they’re not more premium. The spesh tyres are specced on their £14000 bikes, they are also racing and winning world cups, cape epics, short track races, marathons for years with the rest of them. Spesh has led the way with a couple others with FEA and camps set up for surely testing their tyres with a refresh every few years. There is no “premium”. The stickers are fancier on the maxxis. But they’re heavier. Higher rolling resistance. Higher weight. No noticeable gain in traction to account for those either. Spesh offers sworks 120 tpi, softer and harder (T7 and T5 respectively) control tyres. All you’re choosing is 120 vs 60 tpi determining a less or more robust carcass.

A life long sworks 120 tpi snob. I went maxxis aspen and hated life. That’s a gravel tyre. Tore through the Vittoria barzo. Went ikon and they’re a great once was a race tyre now a recreational tyre— but been left for dead with rolling resistance, grip and weight by the competition. Rekon race won’t get a look in from the tyre tests and price and weight. Nah ta.

Pros: racing and winning world cups
Cons: heavier, higher resistance
