I've heard some awesome things about the continental extreme contact tire in snowy conditions.
Most of my touring has been with gatorskins and ultra gatorskins and I've had very few flats. My favorites, however, are the continental Hardshell. I've been using those for the last 2 years without a single flat.
Nordfrost 5 (no studs) for the Tig (4motion), Marangoni 4ice on the Passat. I like the Nordfrosts better (had the Nordfrost 3 on the Jetta and loved them there too).
My '13 VR6 Sport w/navi and the 18" wheels (OEM Continentals, not Goodyears) has been great through its first 9K miles. The ride is fine, tires are quiet enough and seem to be wearing OK
GREAT in the snow and they are quiet, comfortable and handle well in all other conditions.
And yet another vote for the Conti DW. I run them on the FR-S and I'm very happy with them.
Can I sugest the Continental Extreme Contact DWS? I have them on my GTO and they are suprisingly awesome, and they wear very well, especially when you consider the weight of my car (3,700lbs). Almost an all season tire with Ultra-high performance grip.
I have Conti DW in 225/40-18s and love them. Tirerack has them for $144/ea right now. 340 AA A I've also owned Mich PS, PS2, Conti DWS, and P Zeros in this size.
I have the Continental Extreme Contact DW tires and have no complaints. Good price. Good grip. Comfortable.
For all season , Continental Extreme Contact DWS are great, kinda weak sidewalks though.
