For what it's worth I have a 2009 VR6 sport with over 70K miles and so far it has been pretty much bullet proof. I do most of my own maintenance so everything has been done properly and on time. The tires were replaced at 60k miles and there was still 4/32" tread left on the OEM 235/45/18 Conti's.
I've been very impressed with the EV's performance in the snow. I'm running 15" Continental ContiWinter Contact snow tires, and use them year-round since I don't put many miles on during the summer months.
Knowing this, and having been uninspired by Michilen X-Ices I tried out Continentals Extreme Winter contacts last year. They have about 80-90% of the traction of the Bridgestones, but their compond wears longer, doesn't feel as squirmy as the softer Bridgestones. They even feel pretty good when its dry out.
I have had these on for a few weeks. They are super quiet and have an amazing ride.
Got a set of Continental Extreme Contact DW tires a few months ago.. great tires and highest ranked on Tire Rack.
I picked a set of these tires up from Bob a few months ago, I didn't want to wear out my RE-11's doing daily driving so I needed a second set of tires. The only thing I noticed about them is they do have a bit of road noise that comes in around 30-50km, but that is it. Performance and traction wise they are pretty good; infact better than most touring tires IMO. They handle equally well in the rain and with a higher treadwear rating they should last at least three or four summers for me.
Well, I put a set of Achilles Platinums on my vehicle today. On another forum 2 guys were having a raging debate about the good vs. bad on these tires. Even though these tires are relatively new to North America they do have a racing pedigree in Europe, and they very well exceed the standard American standards for compliance.
I replaced my tires with some Continental ExtremeContact DW's in that size today and I'm very happy with them.
For winter I'm running Conti DWS on 17's and they've performed well. In snow my only limitation has been ground clearance.
i ordered some of the continental DWS's...all the reviews have them tops for all season and 50k warranty!
