Thermostat Mahle or MotoRad
The SNN-2000-195 model is good and I have zero complaints about it. I've used them for awhile now.
All I could get on short notice was a motorad...been in there over a year now and haven't had an issue. It's an OE 195 temp and seems to open around 205-210.
I found an exact copy of the factory thermostat with the baby one next to the primary the Amazon description says it’s good up to a 2000. It’s a Motorad. My temp never moves from the set point.
Big fan of the Motorad SNN-2000-195. Works great.
I remembered the old thermostat looking like it did, so I waited a few hours to let the engine cool down then swapped the new thermostat for the old one, turned the engine on and no overheating. I've been driving the car as it is for a while now without any problems other than I can't drive long-distance without it running too hot (ex. I drove 4 hours a couple times a year traveling for college, and in the summer the car sometimes would overheat by the time I got to my destination).
Last week changed the thermostat on my 1.9 tdi 66kW to a Mahle TX 15 87D (11€), it was fine for the first two days, then the temps started dropping again.
1st Mahle. The engine only reaches up to 65 degrees and it drops further if I drive under 2000RPMs on highway for example or turn on the heating.
car in winter cant even reach optimal temperature in idle, reaches optimal temperature only uphills on RPMS higher thatn 2500
Had a Motorad Fail Safe a few years ago and it was a POS.
Tried a Gates from RockAuto and it was a Motorad in the box. Installed it anyway, it seemed to hold the temp *lower* than the 170 Stant did, and my engine cooled all the way down to cold when I went down a long grade.
