I've been researching spark plugs and i believe the oem's in Phaeton are Platinum. I am certainly going to verify that and will change mine to Iridium's. For the purpose of better power, performance, and fuel mileage.
I found a set that didnt get sent with my car for some reason when i sold it they are worth the money my idle smoothed out with the bosh compared to the autolite 63's
When it was time for my 80K service I used Bosch FR7HPP222 plugs gapped at .040. The current owner is now at 110K and the car is running great.
For the cars that call for the silvers as the OE plugs, there is no better choice [than the silvers].
about ten years ago, when my Beetle was my DD, I used nothing but Bosch Super (the cheap copper ones) and never had an issue.
Mods: Autotech 262 cams 42 Draft Test Pipe TT 2.5\" exhaust w/Borla Turn 2 Cold Air intake Mk4 Headgasket UR pullies DIY Light Flywheel GIAC cam chip Mk4 plug wires Bosch FR6LDC plugs - reused more times then I can count Motor is a 139k stock block, with a 140+k stock head on it (stock springs), manifolds and tb are all stock.
Changed spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor with Bosch bits (w7dtc not those crappy +4s)
econolines are ok except for one huge cluster****. On the late 90s through 02 i think they built them with too few threads on the heads for the spark plugs. Consequently spark plugs routinely blow out.
this summer I switched from oem to platinum bosch plugs and just recently took to dealer and had plugs changed as they said the platinum plugs in fsi engine will cause some fuel to not burn properly.
After too many bad experiences/unhappy motors I wouldn't put bosch plugs in a lawn mower.
