Bilstein B14 (non-adjustable) or Bilstein B16 (damping adjustable, rebound + compression together IIRC) are also decent choices, and I believe there are versions that will fit both FWD and AWD GSWs. My Alltrack on B14s appears below. I have them set within 1/2\" of the top of their adjustment because the tires are 245s and I don't want too much rubbing. The can go at least 1.25\" lower.
So far it rides really smooth, much better than the OEM suspension that has most likely been.
The Bilstein B8's they have should be solid and properly valaved to the OE WRX spring rates. Bilstein makes good stuff.
Next Up Bilstein 5100 shocks (In the mail) Bilstein Steering Damper (In the mail)
My plan is to get the Eibach Pro-Kit with Bilstein B8 shocks/struts for my 2017 Golf Sportwagen. It's a decent amount of lowering 1.4" front and 1.2" rear. A lot of great reviews here and elsewhere on this combination.
I went with Bilstien shocks and dobinson springs. I have a family of four and a 2.5/1.5 lift with 285/70/17 with 17x9 rims. It’s our daily family vehicle.
I threw a used set on my convertible with the expectation of replacing them with a new set at some point but they ride so damn well I never ended up replacing them.
I went with the bilstien for the level on my 02 and it works really well.
Just go with Bilsteins.
I've put the Bilstien HDs on several Weekenders and think they are too soft IMO.
