I too decided on the Bilstein HD shocks front and rear. They are definitely better than the worn out stock shocks. The MV is flatter now in the corners, and dips in the road are not followed by the "dolphin dance".

Pros: flatter in the corners
Cons: expansion joints noticeable
Vehicle: Volkswagen

I replaced the limp stock shocks on my 2002 Weekender recently. I used Bilstein B46-1911/12 (the "HD" ones). The ride manages to be both smoother and more controlled.

Pros: smoother and more controlled
Cons: sharp-edged bumps worse
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Part number: B46-1911/12

I replaced the worn shocks in my 1.8T with some Bilstein TC (touring class, OE replacement shocks) a few years ago, and I liked them very much. Compared to the stock shocks on my 1.8T, they are a bit stiffer, but still extremely compliant.

Pros: extremely compliant, liked them
Cons: a bit stiffer
Vehicle: Audi

I think I saw someone mention Bilstein heavy duty shocks. I also recommend them. I love the way the van rides on these, and I don't consider it harsh at all.

Pros: love the ride
Cons: not harsh at all
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Remove one of the clamps holding the rack and as I recall, loosen the other one or perhaps remove it as well (been over 10 years since I last did it). Then pull the rack away from the firewall, loosen the jam nut and screw in the adjuster a little. Will probably take you a few times to get the feel of the adjustment.

Pros: nice in the middle
Cons: tight at each end
Vehicle: Volkswagen

So I dumped the KONI Sport and opted for the Bilstein HD with stock springs and a rear bar. What a dramatic difference, still a comfortable ride and very tight around corners.

Pros: comfortable ride, tight corners

Adding the Bilsteins made such a huge difference in the handling of the car! Stock shocks are sloppy by comparison.

Pros: huge difference in handling
Cons: stock shocks are sloppy
