I had this debate and went Bilstein 5160s (the ones with the springs included) love them
Bilstein B4 OE Replacement FRONT (used 20xxx miles)- $75
I LOVE the B6 shocks. I don't think they feel any different from the day I first installed them. I much prefer monotubes over twin-tubes, and I prefer European over Japanese (still talking about shocks). Bilstein has always been perfect for me, and I cannot say the same about Koni, KW, Tokico, etc.
Bilstein is my go-to, Sachs or KYB if I can't get Bilstein; Bilstein 5100s on my WJ are great, 5100 coilover's I had on a Tundra were great; 4600s I had on a Tacoma were great.
I went to Art Center in Pasadena and used it for my commute to school. The rubber weather seals are starting to crack due to age and probably heat, but otherwise, its in great condition, but does not run. The BBS wheels were driven on for about a year with no curb rash. It has a Calloway turbo kit in it...one of the few remaining. I think that there are Bilstein shocks in it...which most items are probably not great anymore.
B6 Bilstein ..no I did notice any ride height increase. I am not lowered..but my gap from tire to fender did not change..I don't know about any problems with these shocks as I have only read many positive reviews..and they come on a lot of performance cars from the factory..example Corvette...In any event..they carry a Lifetime Warranty to original purchaser!
Bilstein 5100's are worlds better than the OEM shocks/struts, even the Z71 package.
My current set up is Bilstein 5100s with the front raised the full 2 inches and I run Toyo Open Country R/Ts 33x12.50s on 18" Method NVs.
I recently put Bilstein B-6 in car and it was a marked improvement over my OEM ones..I have a 2017 GLI..I just felt that the stock suspension wasn't that great..I am not lowered. With OEM.. I felt every bump..but worse, I heard every bump..suspension was to me..noisey.
As you all can see, the dyno showed how the TC Sport are (as also advertised) pretty close to stock, if we look at the compression. The rebound is quiet more than stock thought. But from the graphs is pretty clear that the TC is not any near the advertised 10 or 20% stiffer than stock
