A change with that oil and an OEM toyota filter costs me a bit more than $23.
Oil and filter every 5k miles give or take a couple hundred. Air filter... when it gets dirty or once a year. Which ever is first. Most of the time it is the year.
every 5k miles for me to stave off the inevitable HG issue. 160k miles on a 3rd gen which is notorius for HG problems if you don't change your oil.
This is normal. Funnily enough, a Toyota dealer is probably the cheapest place to get a 0w20 oil change (TGMO from Exxon-Mobil) and OE filter for your vehicle.
When I worked at Scarb.Lexus Toyota I remember the oil filters were definitely a different world of change from the filters you pick up in stores, everything from the seals to the inside filter paper were superior so I always get my filter from the dealer.
Costco brand full synthetic w Toyota filter. Change every 5k or 6 months
I use only genuine Toyota oil filters, you can see and feel the quality, they even come with a pre-lubed "O" ring gasket.
This Yaris basically ruined me WRT engines/serviceability. It has a tiny engine bay yet nothing is in the way of anything else, there's plenty of room to work and you can change the battery or a headlight bulb in a couple minutes. I mean, look how the oil filter is just right there under the 2nd intake runner (and pointing down). That's the starter next to the oil filter, comes out with two bolts.
Original Toyota is the only way to go, try one, you can see and feel the quality difference, they even come with an "o" ring instead of the flat gasket others use and it is PRE-LUBED!
When I first purchased my VW, I could drive it how ever far in whatever temperature and wouldn't get any beeps or blinks. I brought it to a friend to do an oil change and he threw 5W30 in it with a STP oil filter. After that oil change, if the car was driven too long the light would blink and the ding would chime. If you revved to about 2300~ RPM, the noises and blinking would stop. I guess that is a temporary fix, but all I did was change the oil to 10W30 and haven't gotten any noises yet. I guess 5W30 is too thin and can't build up enough oil pressure? I'm not too sure.
