I used the Castrol once, and have been buying the assembled kit from ECS ever since. At 73K miles, now, and change it every 7-8K.
For oil, if you are changing your oil earlier than the OEM recommended oil change interval of 10k mi / 12 mo, then feel free to use the cheapest GF-6B API-SP certified oil of whatever type it says on your oil cap, along with a Toyota OEM filter, which is almost always cheapest to buy at the dealership's parts counter.
Running toyota filter.
In comparison, my local mechanic shops charges around the same price but they don't use OEM filters so I rather go to my local dealership.
My '88 Supra is typically just annual oil changes, maybe $40 for synthetic and filter. I've owned it about 14 years.
I got to Toyota next door for oil and alignment. $170 for both.
Toyota does all the maintenance on my Lexus’s once the freebies at Lexus are done. All charges are a good bit cheaper.
Use OEM filter, they are better than K&N and are very affordable, I usually order 5 at a time from Toyota
That happened to me too. I went to Dick Dyer Toyota because it's closer to my house and they charged me $100 because they put in a new oil filter
Every. Fucking. One. Of those filters was fucked in there by a gorilla with a 1 inch impact. I fucking swear! What is it with lube monkeys and raping Toyota filters in? Hell, the last one I did still had the filter socket attached because that’s how fucking hard that thing got railed into place.
