Oil filter Fram or OEM Volkswagen

Fram Oil filter

Fram has different types of filters, the low end ones are the ones that get trashed on, but they also have some good ones that are on par with what you'd get from any other brand. Even if you use the bad ones it'll be fine, you might want to change the oil a little sooner than normal though.

Pros: good quality, on par
Cons: low end ones trashed

Fram Oil filter

I used a Fram XG3614 filter. Since cost is the same and there was plenty of room, I will use the next size up XG3600. Since I use this filter on other cars and the lawn tractor, I dont need to worry about different filter PNs either. Capacity bump should help any DIY'er stuck on 0w20 for 10k miles too.

Pros: capacity bump
Part number: XG3614

Fram Oil filter

Fram is absolutely the worst filters ever. Years ago a motorcycle forum I belonged to cut open a bunch of major brand filters, K&N, WIX, FilterPro (store brand style) Fram and NAPA. NAPA and WIX were the best bang for the buck, K&N obviously the best but also much more expensive. Fram was shocking, all the internals were cardboard, no metal reinforcement etc. Absolute garbage.

Cons: cardboard internals, poor quality
