Oil filter Fram or OEM Mazda
Did my own oil changes with Fram Filters and Pennzoil full synthetic. Ran Fram air filters too. That's it. Nothing fancy.
Try it and if it works, stick with it. The engine seems to be doing well with that and Fram filters at 8000km changes over 150000km.
You can just get the fram ones thou. I have been using them for 4 years no issues.
oil 0W16 filter I use Fram XG4967
Mazda oil filters are good but there are aftermarket filters equal and some are better than Mazda filters. Call the independent shop and ask what oil and filter they use then research it.
I assume that if I get the el cheapo Fram with the paper media, pretty soon all the paper inside will be shredded?
Everybody has their favorite brands so you're probably gonna get lots of answers. Honestly if somebody else is doing it let them supply their own stuff so if there's any issue it's on them. I do my own oil changes and tend to stick with the manufacturer's brand or recommendation; Motorcraft for Fords, MOPAR for Chrysler, etc. A lot of those though are made by other companies like Purolator or Wix.
But generally speaking FRAM is terrible. A lot of their filters even have cardboard end caps inside that don't seal properly after a while and let contaminants thru.
The 3 best oil filters for your money in no specific order are: WIX, Purolator, NAPA Gold. Modil 1 is also decent quality. I can't recommend the " orange can of death" fram silver and gold or okay quality but I'm not a fan. Just please avoid the orange fram and STP Was decent in the 80's but not worth the money nowadays. Even the Walmart brand (super tech) is at least made by AC DELCO and of okay quality.
I'd rather ram it then Fram it
I used to use fram for my beater even though it had bad reputation. Couple months ago, it finally happened. When I started my car after oil change, it SPRAYED oil not leak from the filter gasket all over my garage floor. Now I just buy a few filter at time at the dealer.
