Oil filter Bosch or OEM Honda
I typically buy OEM filters from the maintenance website section for dreamshop.honda.com
I set my order to be picked up at the dealer months prior to any oil changes. The filter is always blue.
You should definitely change the oil. I always recommend doing an oil change when you buy a car. When I bought my 22 civic and took it to service (because it was still in warranty) the mechanic told me it was a great thing i brought it in because the filter was so loose that he basically did 2 turns before oil started coming out. You never want to risk anything.
The oem filters are kind of pricey here so I use bosch or fram ultra synthetic
I believe there was a technical bulletin about this, recommending that the VW installations of the 1.8T be run the way Audi, who wasn't have the issue, was running them. So that meant using the much larger diesel Rabbit oil filter, like the Bosch 72174, or the Mann or Knecht equivalents, which upped the oil capacity of the engine, and then running only synthetic
I looked up filters and Bosch was the superior brand. I use my military discount and buy six at a time through Home Depot since the Mrs. Edge and my son's Escape take the same filter as my 2.5L Maverick. IMO the filter is as important as the quality of oil.
I do a lot of miles in my diesel so I buy in bulk from rock auto and the shipping barely goes up
My last order I made sure to get all of the filters from the same warehouse while still getting good brands like Wix and Bosch
I always buy Bosch filters for both our VW's
The A02 oem Honda filter is made by the same company that makes FRAM filters, Under the blue paint, it is identical to the FRAM/Honeywell Tough Guard filter Line. Decent filter. Def better options available though.
I had a 2002 Honda CR-V and the oil filter was mounted horizontally on the back of the engine. You had to reach through the RH front wheel well with the wheel removed or turned all the way to the left. Making a mess was completely unavoidable.
Honda doesn't make oil filter. You are wasting your money.
Buy brand like Fram or bosh, following maintenance schedule the the only really important thing.
