With a good filter (Fram synthetic endurance, Purolator boss, Amsoil) and a modern high performance oil such as Amsoil signature and Pennzoil ultra platinum you are good for at least 17.5k with the Amsoil and 12.5k with the Pennzoil under 'severe' conditions.
Motorcraft filters use a silicone anti drain back valve ADBV. Cheapos use rubber ones that get hard in the cold and don’t seal. If they don’t seal oil leaks out of the hydraulic chain tensioners and they aren’t pressurized when the engine starts, so the chain isn’t tensioned and it rattles for a second against the plastic guide before oil pressure comes back.
I use Mobile 1, 5/30 in my F150 EcoBoost...287K on it. Change every 6K . And I am an absolute believer in OEM filters. My new Bronco gets the same treatment. Don't skimp on the filter.
While Ford said you can use 5-20 I know where I live it gets warmer than 86 degrees so in my F150 I run 5-30 or 10/40.
I’ve had no issues with synth and have 255k on it.
Also…I would recommend a Motorcraft filter.
I use Amsoil EA15K13-EA.
Every 4500-5000 miles with Amsoil Signature and Amsoil filter. Do it yourself, it’s not hard and you can be assured no corners were cut. Don’t go beyond 5000 miles. The 3.5L is really hard on oil. It’s cheap insurance.
I use motorcraft full synthetic and motorcraft filters.
5000 miles, full synthetic, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Do it myself to make sure it's done right. Use the Motorcraft OEM filter.
I'm currently using Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 and an Amsoil filter. 2024 Rav4 Prime XSE with 44,000+ miles. Several used oil analyses flagged high fuel dilution so I want the thicker Euro oil in there and also change it early every 5,000 miles.
Stay away from Motorcraft filters, they are aweful.
